Just the Facts, M'am
This posting is for my medical, scientific and technical friends (and you know who you are). I promised doing a summary report with all the pathology info so here it is. To date, I have had two different labs analyze and report on two different samples taken on two different dates (October 23 and December 11). Both reports are remarkably similar.
I will not attempt to identify or explain any of the technical/medical terms listed below. That information is readily available online and it's a bit too tedious for me today. I will also not give much commentary on the report. As my title suggests, this is just a collection of the objective facts. Anyone who wants to do more research on any of this is more than welcome and I would appreciate any feedback if you have it.
Patient has family history on paternal side with Grandmother and Aunt diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Genome test: Negative for genetic BRCA mutation. Patient has life-long history of fibrous breast tissue and fibrocystic condition.
Type of cancer: Invasive Breast Cancer (IBC) Invasive Ductal Carcinoma (IDC)
BI-RADS score: 5
Dx: 10/23/17
Stage 1A, T1c, N 0/2, M 0
Subtype: Triple Negative, Highly Aggressive
Grade (includes Glandular/Tubular Differentiation, Nuclear Pleomorphism, Mitotic Rate): 3
Nottingham Histologic score: 9/9
Basal-cell phenotype
Tumor Focality: Unifocal
Cancer located in the upper outside quadrant, right side
There has been no evidence of metastasis or lymphatic system involvement nor have there been any symptoms consistent with breast cancer. The nipple discharge was due to a common benign condition (see below).
12/11/17: Right Side Partial Mastectomy (Lumpectomy) to remove a deep malignant tumor at the 10:00 position on the axillary tail measuring less than 2 cm. Additionally, a benign Intraductal Papilloma at the 6:00 position just under the nipple measuring 1.5 x 1.2 x 0.6 cm was removed using a second incision.
A section of tissue measuring approximately 6 x 4 x 3 cm and weighing a total of 32 grams which contained the malignant tumor 1.9 x 1.7 x 1.6 cm was removed. Clean, clear margins were obtained. Negative margins.
Two lymph nodes were excised and tested during a Sentinel Node Biopsy and were both clear and cancer-free. No lymph node enlargement. 0/2
No tumor evidence on skin, nipple or skeletal muscle.
62 cells (first test only)
FISH analysis
HER2 signal: 2.0
CEP17: 1.9
HER2/CEP17 Ratio: 1.1
Negative for HER2
Lymphovascular invasion: Absent
ER: Negative
PR: Negative
HER2: Negative
Ki-67: 70 %
CK 5/6: Positive
P63: Negative (non metaplastic carcinoma)
